Stocktake a Product at a New Location
If you stocktake a product at a location where Shopify hasn't yet activated the inventory item, Alfred now activates the location for you and sets the on-hand to your counted value as part of the submit. You don't need to pre-activate the location in Shopify Admin first.
Stocktake at a new location
RecommendedGo to Stocktakes & Adjustments and click 'Perform Stocktake: Specific Products' — a new location is exactly the case where you want the scope that can't write anything down.
Pick the location you're counting at — including a new location where the product hasn't been tracked before.
Add the product using barcode scan, manual search, or CSV upload. The Prior On-Hand may show zero or blank for untracked items, which is expected.
Enter the actual on-hand count. This is the absolute count, not a delta — Alfred figures out the change for you.
Switch to the Review & Submit tab. Confirm the counted value looks right.
Click Submit to Shopify. For each untracked line, Alfred activates the inventory item at the location and sets it to your counted value in one push.
Pro Tips
- 💡If a product is already stocked at more than 100 locations, Alfred can't verify activation status and will ask you to activate the new location manually in Shopify Admin first, then retry the stocktake. This affects very large catalogs only.
- 💡A line that fails (for example the over-100-location case) does not stop the rest — the others still submit, and the completed session records which were skipped and why.
- 💡For new-location rollouts, run a single Specific Products count covering everything actually present rather than one count per product. ⚠️ Don't reach for Whole Location here — at a brand-new location almost everything is legitimately absent, and a whole-location count would offer to zero all of it.
