Receive Inventory & Update Shopify
When inventory arrives at your warehouse, use Alfred's Receiving & Stocktakes module to count items and push the adjustments directly to Shopify. You can receive against a specific PO, do an ad-hoc receive, run a full stocktake, or make manual adjustments.
Option 1: Receive against a Purchase Order
RecommendedGo to Receiving & Stocktakes from the left navigation.
Click 'Receive PO' and select the purchase order you're receiving against.
Select the warehouse location where items are arriving.
The session pre-populates with all items from the PO and their expected quantities.
Count items: scan barcodes with a USB/Bluetooth scanner, or enter quantities manually in the 'Manual' column.
The 'Total' column shows your running count vs. the expected quantity.
When counting is complete, switch to the 'Review & Submit' tab.
Review the summary: Prior On-Hand, Counted, Net Units, and Post-Receive On-Hand for each item.
Click 'Submit to Shopify' to push the inventory adjustments. Changes appear in Shopify admin immediately.
Option 2: Run a Stocktake (cycle count)
Go to Receiving & Stocktakes and click 'Stocktake'.
Select the location you're counting.
Add products by scanning barcodes, searching, or uploading a CSV of SKUs.
Enter the actual on-hand count for each product. This is the absolute count, not an increment.
Switch to Review & Submit. The 'Net Units' column shows the delta (counted minus Shopify's current on-hand).
Positive deltas mean you have more than Shopify thinks. Negative means shrinkage.
Submit to Shopify to reconcile the inventory.
Pro Tips
- 💡Set up barcodes in Product Configurations before your first receiving session — it dramatically speeds up counting.
- 💡Use carton barcodes for case-pack receiving: one scan adds the full carton quantity (e.g., 12 units) instead of scanning each item individually.
- 💡Always review the Post-Receive/Post-Stocktake On-Hand column before submitting — it shows what Shopify will reflect after the adjustment.
- 💡For regular cycle counts, create stocktake sessions by product type or location rather than counting everything at once.
